![]() Yost traveled to Warren County to personally release the township from fiscal emergency. Township Fiscal Officer Ray Warrick said the deficits were never truly negative balances but rather the result of hundreds of accounting errors made through the years by the previous fiscal officer. Township officials also were required to develop a plan to eliminate the deficits – which officials say they did by the end of 2014 – and develop a five-year plan for spending. Yost appointed a state oversight committee to monitor and review township spending. The Enquirer covered those troubles in a series last year that revealed numerous violations of state law going back more than a decade, as well as multi-million dollar deficits in several funds. Yost said the community of about 24,000 residents also faced deficits of $2.5 million in its road and bridge and new administration building funds and a $1 million-plus treasury deficit. Yost placed the fast-growing Warren County township in fiscal emergency last year after audits of the township's finances by state-certified auditors for fiscal years 2002-2009 revealed numerous violations of state law, many of which were repeat violations. A few months after receiving its first clean financial audit in decades, Ohio Auditor of State Dave Yost released Hamilton Township from "fiscal emergency" Thursday. ![]()
